My humidifier appears to be leaking, how can I fix it?

Ensure that the tank cap is securely screwed onto the tank. Next, confirm the unit is set on a flat level surface and that there are no cracks on the tank. If this does not resolve the issue, please contact Consumer Relations by calling 800-477-0457 or emailing [email protected]

Why is my unit not producing mist?

Dry air is pulled through the system and a fan disperses invisible, moisture balanced air. There is no visible mist emitted. When operating normally you will feel only cool air coming from the unit. Monitor the water level in your tank and base. If you notice a decrease in the water tank over 24 hours, then the unit is operating normally.

How do I care for the filter?

Whenever you turn your humidifier off, remove the filter and allow it to air dry. If you have a unit with no automatic shut off, you can empty the tank and filter tray and turn it on with no water in it, allowing the fan to dry the filter out.   It is completely normal for your filter to discolor with each use.  Yellow, brown, or rust colored discoloration happens because the filter absorbs all the minerals out of your water.  If you flip the filter, from top to bottom with each filling of the tank, you will get much more even saturation and the longest life out of your filter.  Make sure you never add any chemicals to your filter and don't try and only clean your filter with cool water. Do not squeeze the filter to dry it out.

I can hear the fan spinning, but the water level is not going down, what is wrong?

First, check the filter to ensure it is wet. If it appears dry, remove it from the base and rinse it under cool water. Reposition the wet filter in the base. Also, note the current moisture level in your home. If the humidity level is over 60% the unit will not put out much moisture as your air is already saturated.

Can I use medication with this humidifier?

The Vicks Starry Night Cool Mist Humidifier allows for the use of Vicks VapoPads, that provide soothing, aromatic vapors.

The water level is going down in the tank, but I do not feel an increase in humidity, what is wrong?

Initially when using a unit, it can take a seemingly long time for the humidity level in the room to rise. The reason for this is that your unit is constantly pushing moisture into a dry environment. Everything in that environment (walls, floors, furniture, carpet, etc.) is absorbing this moisture. Only when all the objects in the environment are saturated, will the water from the humidifier stay in the air.

How does this type of humidifier work?

Water is absorbed into a porous wicking filter. Air blowing from the fan through the filter evaporates moisture into the air.

Do I have to use a filter when running this humidifier?

Yes, the filter is required for the unit to produce moisture.

Are there any accessories for this humidifier?

Optional accessories for these types of units include VicksVapoPads as well as Protec Cleaning Cartridges. The Protec Antimicrobial Cleaning Cartridge features a patented antimicrobial, Aquastat®, that continuously works to inhibit the growth of bacteria and mold. This will also help prevent the buildup of slime in the water and humidifier surfaces.
