The Vicks® SmartTemp™ thermometer and free downloadable app (for iOS or Android) make it easy to take and track temperature readings for the entire family. The thermometer uses Bluetooth technology to wirelessly connect to your smartphone delivering the large digital readout on your phone screen.

Question: Is this thermometer suitable for family members of all ages?

Answer: Yes, this thermometer can be used on infants, children & adults.

Question: Can the Vicks SmartTemp Thermometer be used rectally?

Answer: Yes, this thermometer can be used orally, rectally or underarm. Make sure to select the correct measurement site for the reading.

Question: What devices are compatible with the thermometer and app?

Answer:

  • For iOS: iPhone 4S and newer, iPad 3rd gen and newer, and all models of iPad mini.
  • For Android: Devices running Android 4.4 (Kit Kat) and higher with Bluetooth Smart (BLE) capability are required.
Question: How far apart can the thermometer and app be, and still take a reading?

Answer: The typical range of Bluetooth Smart devices is 20-50 feet.

Question: Can I connect the thermometer to more than one Smartphone?

Answer: Yes, each Smartphone will have to download the App and complete the one-time setup. The thermometer can only connect to one Smartphone at a time. Make sure the App is turned off on other Smartphones to avoid interference.

Question: Will my thermometer work without the Vicks SmartTemp app?

Answer: You can take measurements without your smartphone (offline readings) by following the steps below:

  • Turn on the thermometer, the light will blink red.
  • Insert thermometer into desired location. When reading is in progress, light will blink green.
  • When beep is heard, remove the thermometer.
  • Open the app on your smartphone and make sure your thermometer is on. Tap the red circle that will appear by the history tab and view your reading.
Question: How can I share/transfer my recent temperature readings to other family members that use the App?

Answer:

  • Turn on the thermometer and open the app on the phone that you would like to transfer the readings.
  • Make sure only one app is open at a time, so the thermometer will send readings to the correct phone.
  • Click on the red circle (next to the HISTORY tab) and follow the prompts.
Question: If my babysitter used the thermometer, will the temperature reading automatically appear on my app while I’m out?

Answer: No, the App is not cloud enabled and does not automatically sync when the device is out of range. However, once you are back in range you can load the babysitter’s readins on to the app. Follow the instructions below to share measurements:

  • Turn on the thermometer and open the app on the phone that you would like to transfer the readings.
  • Make sure only one app is open at a time, so the thermometer will send readings to the correct phone.
  • Click on the red circle (next to the HISTORY tab) and follow the prompts.
Question: A pop up appeared showing me readings that I don’t remember taking. Where did these come from?

Answer: The thermometer can take and store up to 10 offline temperatures when the app is closed or out of range. If you took an offline reading, follow the on-screen prompts to save or delete. If your thermometer was last used by another family member’s app, the thermometer will store the last 10 readings so that you can choose to save them to your app as well. Just follow the on-screen prompts to save or delete.

Question: I took a temperature reading on another thermometer. Can I still add the reading to a profile?

Answer: Yes, you can manually enter temperature readings taken from another thermometer.

To add a manual reading:

  • Open the family member’s history and select Add event
  • Follow the on screen prompts
Question: How can I email the temperature history to someone else?

Answer:

  • Under History, scroll to the profile that you wish to share.
  • Click on Export and follow the on screen prompts to share the history via email.
Question: I made an error on the notes & symptoms for a reading. How do I fix it?

Answer:

  • Under History, scroll to the family member’s profile.
  • Find the reading that you wish to change and click on the + icon for that reading.
  • Click on the symptoms, medications or notes that you wish to change and make any edits.
  • Hit SAVE to close that screen.
  • Once you have made all edits, click SAVE one more time to get back to the main profile screen.
Question: How can I switch between Fahrenheit and Celsius?

Answer:

  • Under the MORE menu, select setting.
  • Change Units between Fahrenheit and Celsius

*Note: this will convert all readings stored under profiles in addition to all future readings.

Question: How do I know when the battery will run out?

Answer: Under the MORE menu, select Battery (the thermometer must be on and connected)

Question: What replacement battery do I use?

Answer: CR2032
